Also women play Lacrosse in Belgium
To support the growth of women’s lacrosse in Belgium all Belgian lacrosse teams came together. At the end of 2010 Ghent Goblins, Kings Lacrosse, Buggenhout Brewers and Red Rhinos made a plan which should help making 2011 the year of women’s lacrosse in Belgium.
Sunday 13/03/2011 the first interclub women’s activity was held in Brussels, ISB. Coaches Bernice and Claire from the BSA (Brussels Sports Association) welcomed the whole female Belgian Lacrosse community for a 2 hours lacrosse clinic. Both Claire and Bernice have experience in coaching and playing lacrosse, which is no certainty at Belgium women’s lacrosse activities.
11 Girls from all over the country travelled to Watermaal-Bosvoorde to be part of this opportunity to play lacrosse. The practice started with basic passing, to get the correct feeling before starting with the line drills. Both off and on hand passing were practised even catching the ball in front as in rear were scheduled for this practice. After the line drill, it was time to meet the first women’s goalie and test her a little bit with some shooting drills
During the second halve of this clinic the girls tasted a bit of playing a full field scrimmage. With 6 vs 6 and two goalies the few spectators saw some good plays and goals, but most important the players learned the rules, tactics and play in real. After 2 hours of heavy labour all girls were exhausted, but above all enthusiastic about their sport. After thanking Bernice and Claire for this clinic it was picture time, so we all can remember this day
